On Saturday at the National Indoor Gymnasium in Guyana, the men’s and women’s table tennis teams from TrinidadĀ and Tobago confirmed their participation in the 2023 El Salvador Central and Caribbean Championship (CAC) Games.
TT men’s opening match of the competition ends in a 3-0 loss against Guatemala in the group round. Yuvraaj Dookram and Derron Douglas were beaten 3-1 by Diego De La Cruz and Hector Gatica (13:11; 9:11; 11:8; 11:4). Aaron Wilson was beaten by Heber Moscoso by a score of 3-2 to give the Guatemalans a 2-0 lead (13:11; 7:11; 5:11; 11:1). Afterwards, Gatica defeated Dookram 3-0 to secure the win (12:10; 14:14; 11:1).
Due to a loss to the dominant Guatemalans, TT needed to defeat Haiti in order to place in the top eight and qualify for the CAC Games. TT men easily defeated their Caribbean opponents by a score of 3-0. TT men will play Guyana for the fifth and final spot on Sunday after being trounced 3-0 by Costa Rica in the quarterfinal round.
The TT ladies overcame losses of 3-1 to the host country Guyana and 3-0 to the Dominican Republic to overcome Costa Rica by a score of 3-0. Victoria Castro and Sofia Perez were easily defeated by Imani Edwards- Taylor and Priyanka Khellawan, winning 3-0. (11:8; 13:11; 11:8). Chloe Fraser, a player from France, made it 2-0 for TT by defeating Angie Araya 3-0. (11:9; 12:10; 11:4).
After a thrilling 3-2 triumph over Perez, Taylor gave her squad a critical victory (11:4; 11:9; 8:11; 6:11; 11:5). The youthful three from TT moved to the semi-final round to play Guatemala thanks to the outcomes of the other group matches.
