At the annual general meeting (AGM) held on Sunday at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua, Dr. Shellyanne Wilson, a former national table tennis player and Caribbean champion, was chosen president of the TT Table Tennis Association (TTTTA) without opposition.
Wilson refers to the whole “Love All” slate’s two-year term as their “Mission Possible” because they ran unchallenged in the election. The southpaw played her whole playing career for the D’Abadie Youths Table Tennis Club, the team from her birthplace. Curtis Humphreys, a longtime national player and coach, is the TTTTA’s first vice president. Other executive members include Jelani Bramble, Ernest Fraser, Patrice Valentine, Nigel Morgan, Sharon Bravo-Phillip, Rabindra Outar, Everton Sorzano, and Jelani Bramble. Nigel Morgan serves as the association’s assistant secretary (public relations officer).
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the fraternity for the chance to serve,” Wilson said after being elected. “I started playing table tennis at a very young age thanks to my sister.” I give table tennis credit for playing a significant role in helping me become the person I am today. Giving back to the sport that so generously offered to me makes me extremely grateful. “I want to congratulate the members of the “Love All” slate for putting themselves up for this extremely tough circumstance to bring the game of table tennis forward,” the University of the West Indies lecturer continued. The departing executive deserves special recognition for facing challenges while managing operations during the COVID-19 epidemic.
In order to strengthen the sport, the executive has selected a number of critical areas that they will focus on, including strong governance and administration, player development, talent discovery, ongoing national programs, growing the playing population, and financial sustainability.
The leadership will soon need to approve the numerous committees in addition to choosing and assembling the junior and senior teams for the impending Caribbean Champions, which will take place in Guyana in March.
